Church History
Only God could...
Cornerstone Fellowship Church began in the fall 2004 as a re-start of West Cartersville Baptist Church. Forty percent of all start up churches fail and West Cartersville fell prey to this phenomenon. Some incredibly brave men and women made the sacrifice to see a new church in this community and their efforts were not in vain with nearly 200 people coming to know Christ in it's 3 year existence. A few of those brave souls opted to try that again when they took a chance on a new pastor and a fresh start with Cornerstone Fellowship Church.
Clay Willis began as a bi-vocational pastor in 2004 in the last week of a lease agreement that left the church with no place to meet. With $16 in the bank the church set out to find space with the help of the Georgia Baptist Convention. The church already owned land but it was up for sale because of the delcine in the church attendance and giving. We took a chance and moved a modular chapel onto the property not knowing if the land would sell before our contract ran out. After of few months of growth the for sale sign was taken down believing God had a purpose for us in this community.
We grew to over 75 people in that small modular and purchased another modular building for worship. It would accomodate 150 people. In February of 2007 the church hired Clay as their full time pastor. After several years of volunteers leading worship we hired our first worship leader in July 2008. At the same time our lease was up on the GBC building so we had to let it go back. We purchased a 24 x 60 modular classroom and converted it into a welcome center/rest room/nursery. We relocated our building to the top of the hill and expanded our parking area. As our children's ministry grew we were forced to purchase another modular classroom to put behind our other buildings. As God continues to grow our church we will continue to seek His face for new direction.
What seperates us from other congregation is our desire to bring about real change in our community through service projects. We move our worship service outside the walls 4 times a year to do service projects for our community. We've replaced subdivision signs, laid water line, built ramps, cut grass, landscaped, cut ditches, playground repair for schools, striped parking lots, and many other projects. We believe that if our church ceased to exist our community would miss us. We want to be a catalyst for change through improvements and offering help for the hurting. A community is only as strong as it's families the families are only as strong as the churches that support them. We're living out Acts 29 and can't wait to see what God does next!
